Internet-Scale Data Center Power Efficiency

چکیده

The Cooperative Expendable Micro-Slice Servers (CEMS) project evaluates low cost, low power servers for high-scale internetservices using commodity, client-side components. It is a followon project to the 2007 CIDR paper Architecture for Modular Data Centers [11]. The goals of the CEMS project are to establish that low-cost, low-power servers produce better price/performance and better power/performance than current purpose-built servers. In addition, we aim to establish the viability and efficiency of a failin-place model. We use work done per dollar and work done per joule as measures of server efficiency and show that more, lowerpower servers produce the same aggregate throughput much more cost effectively and we use measured performance results from a large, consumer internet service to argue this point.

Web Search Using Small Cores: Quantifying the Price of Efficiency

The commoditization of hardware, data center economies of scale, and Internet-scale workload growth all demand greater power efficiency to sustain scalability. Traditional enterprise workloads, which are typically memory and I/O bound, have been well served by chip multiprocessors comprising of small, power-efficient cores. While small cores deliver performanceper-Watt efficiency for such data ...

Does Scale of Public Hospitals Affect Bargaining Power? Evidence From Japan

Background Many of public hospitals in Japan have had a deficit for a long time. Japanese local governments have been encouraging public hospitals to use group purchasing of drugs to benefit from the economies of scale, and increase their bargaining power for obtaining discounts in drug purchasing, thus improving their financial situation. In this study, we empirically investigate whether or no...

Cost Efficiency Evaluation via Data Envelopment Analysis Approach for Undesirable Outputs based on the Weak Disposability Axiom (Case Study: 56 Electricity Producing Thermal Power Plants in Iran)

Cost efficiency evaluation is a very important and applicable issue in Data Envelopment ‎Analysis (DEA). In this paper, the classical cost efficiency model in which all the input ‎prices are known and fixed for each decision making unit is developed via undesirable ‎outputs with the weak disposability axiom. The proposed model is a nonlinear model ‎under the variable returns to scale condition,...
